Revd Hennie Johnston
Vicar

I am Hennie Johnston, Vicar of St Mark’s Church since 2011. I was ordained 20 years ago and before then I worked for the House of Commons in London for 18 years. I like cooking and relaxing with friends and family. I also enjoy walking my dog Bella in the meadows in Chester as well as in the Highlands of Scotland where I was brought up. I love being the Vicar of St Mark’s Church with all the challenges and blessings that it brings. My passion is to see lives transformed through the power and love of Jesus Christ.

Ordinand

I am an ordinand, which means that I am training for ordained ministry. I’m at college one day a week and spend time during the week studying. I work as a support worker and have two teenage children at home, one of whom has a rare syndrome and is part of this worshipping community. This has given me a passion to support those with disabilities, their families, and those who feel marginalised in our society. When I can, I love watching musical theatre.

Cat Stinson
Youth Worker

Hi I’m Cat, I joined the team at St Mark’s in April 2023. I really believe that God has called me here to get to know and serve this parish. I’m excited to see what the future holds! I enjoy sport, watching films, catching up with friends, walking and graphic design. My job involves co-ordinating, planning and running youth activities – the plan is to have fun and learn more about God. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Children and Family Outreach Worker

My hope is that children and families can get to know Jesus and see how He can transform lives. I work with children and families in our local schools, lead our baby and toddler group and help run our community youth club (school years 3 –6). I love reading, music and having adventures to the zoo with my family.

Revd Liz Mills
Self Supporting Minister

I am a newcomer to St Mark's arriving in Chester during COVID and finally licensed to St Mark's in February 2023! I am a part time SSM (Self Supporting Minister) and my role is as an assistant to Revd Hennie Johnston as she leads the church. I have responsibility for Life Groups as well as taking weddings, baptisms and funerals as and when needed. I'm married to Mike, and we have two grown up children, May and Rory and we are looking forward to being grandparents for the first time! I belong to a local gym, sing in an amazing choir and enjoy Early Music and Brass Bands.

Simon Chesters

Revd Simon Chesters

My name's Simon and I've been part of the ministry team at St Mark's for quite a few years now. I'm involved mainly with preaching and leading worship at St Mark's, though my "day job" is elsewhere. I've been an ordained minister in the Church of England for nearly 30 years, and currently I work for the Diocese of Chester as Director of Ministry. That means co-ordinating the team that provides support and training resources for people across Cheshire, the Wirral and South Manchester who are either involved in or exploring different types of ministry. I live about 10 minutes walk from church, with my wife Liz, 2 guinea pigs and 5 guitars. We have 3 grown up kids who live elsewhere in the country - for fun I play guitar, listen to lots of different types of music, and when I can manage to get to the gym, I like picking up heavy objects and putting them down again.

My husband Keith and I moved from York to Ellesmere Port in February 2023 and are so excited to be in this area! We love walking and are also really enjoying getting to know the Christian family God has put us in. My job at St Mark’s is such a lovely part of that and I am very honoured to be Hennie’s PA. My role involves diary management, communication, service rotas and many other little bits, all with the aim of supporting your Vicar and by extension you!
