Fun with the Young People

On a Friday between 4.30pm and 6pm you will find a group of 30, 7-11yr olds, at The Venue (otherwise known as the Lache Community Centre) coming along to ‘Youth Club’.

We open every week with an amazing volunteer team of local Lache people, many who have connections with the children who come. We have been open since November and it’s a safe place for children to come and meet their friends, have some good food and take part in all different kinds of activities – and best of all its all free!

Over the last few months we have had a Chester Zoo visit - bringing games and activities about local and worldwide wildlife; we have had street dance sessions, a visit from Scooby the Lache school dog, chatted about Christmas and why we celebrate it (along with a chocolate fountain obviously!) We have listened to children tell us about their week, braided hair, fed dinner and played hours of football.

I also agreed to a slime making week….. Might be a while before the team allow me to do that one again!!

One of the reasons we opened this group was noticing that the younger children were waiting around trying to get in ‘Youth Café’ (a group for year 7 and up). We are hoping that as the children join secondary school they will move from our ‘Youth Club’ into ‘Youth Café’ and continue to meet their friends in a safe, warm place.

Now you might be wondering what this has got to do with St Mark’s church and you might be wondering why I am writing about it. Well, we want to make spaces for children and young people to feel valued, welcome, wanted and loved. Just as Jesus welcomes and loves us.

And of course, if you feel like you could come and chat, make pasta, play football then do come and find me, or email me - this is really an amazing group of young people

Do keep The Venue in your prayers on a Friday night
