"See, i am about to do a new thing..."

‘Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not see it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert……… to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise’.

(Isaiah 43: 18-21)

These verses were given to leaders of churches in Chester at the beginning of January, and they have continued to challenge me whether it be preparing a sermon, in my daily bible readings, and yesterday (Feb 5th) as verse for the day! And I shared these verses with the church on Vision Sunday, when we were sharing our dreams for St. Mark’s.

I have been so encouraged by the engagement of many during our Sunday services in January when we have devoted ourselves to prayer, sharing our dreams, offering to God what we have in our hands by our giving and serving; and then finally committing ourselves to these various areas of ministry and service whether in church, in the community, or out in our daily frontlines. Thank you, and may God bless you as you give and serve in different ways with your money, time, skills and gifts.

For those of you who may have been away during the month of January, or away for the Sunday’s when we offered to God what we had in our hands, and would like to commit to giving and serving God in the life of St. Mark’s, the local community, and on your frontlines; then there are still forms available in the Link which you may like to fill in and then place in the silver post-box in the Link.

With this encouragement comes excitement as to what new thing God is going to be doing amongst us? A number of people have stepped out of the boat and signed up to do new things, and to give financially, and I believe God will honour this step of faith you have taken. Just as God took Moses’ ordinary staff and turned it into a snake so that the Egyptians would believe that Moses had been in the presence of God, and had been sent by God, so He takes the ordinary things in our hands when we offer them to him and turns them into the extraordinary – but do we believe it and see it!?

I pray we will as we spend time in our Father’s presence in prayer, listening to Him, and allowing His Word to dwell in us richly as we regularly read our bibles, meet together weekly in our Life Groups, and gather together for Sunday worship. It is in these places we can drink deep from the River of Life, allowing the Holy Spirit to refresh us, and equip us as we go out to scatter the love of Jesus and declare God’s praise.
