Sermon Series – Summer 2010

During the summer we shall be using the Church of England lectionary.

The Lectionary is a table of readings from Scripture appointed to be read at public worship.  The association of particular texts with specific days began in the 4th Century.  The new revised lectionary provides for a three-year cycle of Sunday readings and is widely used across many denominations.

It has been developed out of a concern for the unity of the Church and a desire for a common experience of Scripture.  Its purpose is to tell the whole story of the Gospel of Jesus Christ from birth to Ascension and to explain the history of salvation and the offer of life to humankind from God.

This summer its main morning readings are in Luke and Acts as we leave the Easter story and move into the growth of the church and the words of Jesus, being workers together in the Kingdom.
